Using the Identifier
Suppose you have a stamp that says "Etat Comorien". Check the identifier for "Etat Comorien",
and "Comorien, Etat". Under "Comorien, Etat", you will find that the stamp is from the Comoro
Islands, 1975-77, and that only around 100 stamps were issued with this inscription.
Source of Info:
This identifier gives information on stamps listed in the standard Scott's catalog. It also
lists items from the following sources: price lists, Trucial States Stamp Catalog, and our
own inventory. We will try to add info from other sources when we get the chance, including
Michel Germany, Barefoot & Hall British Revenue Catalog, others.
Notes: Nov 2007
I am not planning any big updates anytime soon. This version is essentially complete for stamp
inscriptions through 1998, and there have only been a few new ones since then.
-
The column "# issued 1996-98" gives a count
of how many stamps were issued by each current country in those three
years. This should give you an idea of which nations issue a reasonable
number of stamps, and which ones are flooding the market trying to
make a fortune off of unsuspecting collectors. Anything over 200
stamps in this 3 year period is really excessive, but some places, like
Antigua, print almost 200 stamps EVERY year! Ugh!
-
Anyway, all the "# issued" columns are approximate. I can't go through
every catalog and every stamp variety and get an exact figure. But
these numbers are a guideline, and may be helpful.
